Hi all,
I have had a small problem with my Excel 802.11b AP. After some research i have susequently found the problem so i thought i would post here for others.
It is a Excel 802.11b like that sold on shop.borg.co.nz
I installed the drivers to access the AP via SNMP over ethernet and also USB connection. On running the software i was getting an error message "DFU driver not loaded yet". After a reinstall and tried again there was still no luck.
Having "googled" most of the internet there were a few solutions that were posted. One was to disable XP firewall on the ethernet connection. The other was reinstall the drivers. Having done both and no joy i went back to the drawing board. I did come across some others having the same problem on a different AP, but using the same dirver set to access it.
They blamed the power supply of the AP and had them replaced to get it working again. I am running POE over a bit of ethernet cable using one pair for each phase. Having re looked at my hack of a POE attempt i saw that one of the cable pairs wires has broken off. There was still one wire connecting it but it obviously had a power imbalance from the negative side which still had two wires feeding it. After reconnecting the second wire on the live side it all worked sweeet.
A funny error for a power problem!!
Anyway there you go.
