Default DHCP problems

Hi
I have a DSL router with DHCP enabled, the gateway is 192.168.2.1 the wired part is working fine.
But I have two laptop connecting wireless, both have identical settings, one gets its IP with no problem, the other gets a gateway 192.168.123.254 and an IP 192.168.123.150. the signal is excellent in both cases.
Did ipconfig /release and renew on the faulty one, put in the gateway 192.168.2.1 but I still get an IP 192.168.123.150.
I'm using WPA-PSK with TKIP

Of course if I give it a static IP all is fine, but this user travels a lot in different hotels.
Could someone please help me

Thank you

After 78 views, I can't believe that no one has come up with a suggestion to help. if I explained my problem the wrong way, please ask and I will try to answer to the best that I can.
Surely someone must have seen this problem before.

I presume you have set the laptop to automatically connect to any available network?
How do you know it is attempting to connect to your home network and not connecting to one of your neighbours?
Try switching off your router and see if the laptop still connects to a network and gets a 192.168.123.xx address.
If it does I suggest you set your laptop to only automatically connect to your home network and any other networks you have listed set them for connect on demand.

I have a SSID and when I do View Available Wireless Network, there is no other network, plus I use a 13 character shared key since I use WPA-PSK with TKIP encription.

Did you try switching off your router and seeing if the laptop still connected to a network?

Did that yesterday, also I took everyone off (wired) since we also have a T1 but it is much slower.
This DSL router should give me IP in the range 192.168.2.???, but I get 123.???
I also rebooted the router to factory defaults
It's driving me mad

You still haven't told me the result. Did it connect to a network? People do run networks with hidden SSID's which do not show up in "view available networks".

Well if it doesn't connect to anything with your router switched off that just leaves your network. What is the make and model no. of your router?
Is it running a VLAN?
Have you tried resetting your router to it's factory default and seeing if the problem still exists?

The router is a SpeedStream 6520, I did reset to factory defaults, still the same
Been checking on the net to try to find an answer, just can't find any clue
Thanks a lot for your help
I'm going home now, will continue tomorrow
Have a nice one

I think we are missing some info.
I would like you to do the following:
1. Run ipconfig /all and post the result here.
2. Switch off the 6520, and leave switched off, and run ipconfig /all . Is it the same as in 1?
3. Remove all cables, including the power cable, from the laptop and run ipconfig /all .Is it the same as in 1?
4. Go into the "wireless network connection properties"---->"wireless networks".
For every SSID you have listed go into the properties and on the connection tab uncheck the "connect when this network is in range" box. Run ipconfig /all. Is it the same as 1? You should not be automatically connecting to any wireless network so if you get an IP address do an ipconfig /release and try again.
5. Switch on your 6520 and go to your "view available wireless networks", since your laptop should not be automatically connecting to any network click on the SSID of your 6520 and see if it connects. Run ipconfig /all. Is it the same as 1?
