I am having trouble setting up my DLINK DIR-655 router (A4, 1.21). I used this same router in another house without problems but it has been in storage for about one year.
I am currently connected with my MacBook Pro via ethernet cable to the router, which is in turn connected to a Cable modem. The wired connection works fine but no wireless network is showing up.
The wireless section of the status page in the DLINK web-based configuration tool is as follows:
Network Name (SSID) Guest MAC Address Security Mode
dlink No 00:00:00:00:00:00 Disabled
The wireless settings page shows wireless enabled, network name set as dlink with no security enabled. I have tried changing the network name and enabling security. When I "save settings" I get the Please Wait.... page, as if it is processing, and it then either takes me back to the configuration login page where I login and the new settings have not been saved, or the connection drops, and again the new settings are not saved. At no time has the status page changed (always said init failed).
I have reset the router about ten times, and I have powered everything down and powered back on at least as many times (power on order: modem, router, computer). I have also tried this on my Mac using Safari, and on a PC using both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.
I hope this is enough information. Please let me know if you need anything else.
I'm having the same problem with my Dlink DIR-655, been using it for years now but the other week wireless dropped completely. Not showing from multiple devices unless wired. If I power cycle, it sometimes shows the network for 1-2 minutes then disappears.
I've tried factory reset, testing with all the wireless setup options, etc but no change. I'm thinking after a while these just go bad. I'm in the market for another router, but would be willing to break it open and start tinkering around if anyone had some direction to provide.
