DLink DWL-G630 Cardbus Adapter on old Dell Latitude CPi - Device not present error

First of all, Hi. This is my first visit to this forum. OK so here's the deal....

I'm trying to install this card on an old Dell Latitude Cpi, but have not had any luck as of yet. I was told by the previous owner that the card was working (in this machine) at one time, but so far I've had no luck with it.

System Specs: PII 266MHZ 128MB
Windows XP SP2 and Windows ME (i have two drives...same problem with both OS's)

The card is revision C2 and I believe uses an Atheros chipset. I have downloaded the drivers from DLink's site, and have installed and reinstalled several times. I have also tried Atheros drivers with no luck. In device manager, it tells me that "this device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (code 10). The DLink software cannot see the card either.

I have been able to use a standard (wired) ethernet card in the same slot with no problems. I did come across some info on the web about compatibility issues with this card and Windows 9x, but it does the same thing with XP.

I know very little when it comes to laptops and I'm thinking maybe I've overlooked some small stupid detail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
