DNS info not passing to wireless clients

Here’s the environment:

2 laptops (1 gateway & 1 IBM) wired for enet but want to be wireless using integrated adapters capable of 802.11 b or g
1 Dell Desktop wired for enet
1 Clone built for gaming wired but wants to be wireless using Belkin “N” adapter so it can be located some distance from router
All running XP Home
Currently ALL computers are located in same room approx 15’ x 25’ in size
NO wireless security to keep config simple
Internet provided by Comcast Cable MODEM
Various flavors of security products on every computer. Most are McAfee provided by AOL

Installed new Netgear “N” WRN843B router with the latest firmware, connected to cable MODEM and internet worked from all devices when they were hard wired….now tried to go wireless. They connect to the router just fine but no DNS info is passed from router to computer. If you look at ipconfig it shows DNS to be 192.168.1.1 which is the router. I can’t browse the web. When you hardwire everything the correct DNS address(s) are displayed and again the computers connect fine. I thought the router was the problem so I installed a Linksys WRT54G again with the latest firmware and the same problem occurs. I have disabled any firewall s/w and it makes no difference.

Lastly I used my laptop which works everywhere as a test and it has the same issues. I went on to my next call and my laptop worked just fine. I must be missing the obvious and I am too deep into this to see it. Can anyone help out here? Thanks in advance.

A few people seem to have this problem with routers. Try setting your wireless clients to use the ISP's DNS servers instead; this often helps. It doesn't fix the underlying issue but will give you internet access and saves lots of time.

You should probably get some security going once you are up and running too; it is only a matter of time before someone will pick it up and abuse it otherwise.
