I have a PCI 802.11b card installed in my desktop running Windows XP Pro. And a PCMCIA 802.11b in a laptop running Windows ME - yuk (not mine) :-) I cannot "keep" a connection between them (I have tried with a different laptop and same thing happens). So there is something to do with my desktop PC that won't keep a connection for more than 2 seconds. I have to tell the laptop to connect to it, it does, then disconnects. Is there known conflict problems between Windows XP's built-in settings and the software which came with the card (called Wconfig)?
Im guessing that this is one of the cheaper Cameo PCI cards. I have seen thi issue before and could not resolve it so we dithed the cards and went for the more expensive ones.
When I initially fired it up it worked ok for about 10mins or so - but now it consistently is a pain. Is it possible do U think to get a refund from DSE?
They do a 14 day no questions asked warranty (must be in re-saleable condition and working) or up to 28 days if the goods are faulty or not fit for the purpose intended. Consumer guarantees act may increase this by a 'reasonable' time frame, however going by your description of your problem, I can't see them saying no within a 28 day period (I used to manage a dse store).
DSE generally stand beside their product very well.
It now works fine due to my loading Windows XP Service Pack 2. So just keep that in mind with all wireless cards on XP machines - the wireless networking capabilites side of SP2 has been upgraded considerably.
