Default dwl-g520+ disconnects when antenna attached

Hi all, I bought 2 g520+ pci cards to go with my DI-624+ router..

With some fiddling I managed to setup one of the PCI cards in an XP machine with no problems..

But the second PC just didnt want to behave. I kept seeing the network but when I went to connect it would try for ages and then give up.

One day I took the antenna out from the back and low and behold it worked straight away.. although a low connection strength because of having not antenna attached.

i thought it must have been a dodgy antenna so I tried the one from the forst machine but it was exactly the same.

Does anyone have or heard of a similar problem?

I've tried everything, ive even swapped the 2 cards around but it does the same thing! As soon as I attach the antenna it disconnect and when I take it off it reconnects almost instantly.

Thanks,

Fusey

Are you just connecting the two machines in AD-HOC mode or are you connecting via a wireless router?.

There are many things that can have an impact on getting a connection, have a look at what is between the antenna and the AP or device you are trying to communicate to. THings like power cables in the wall, metalic objects on the other side of the wall and in some cases the type matereal the place has been contructed with.

Some of the earlier sound proof Gib has a metal layer that certinly is no good for getting a wireless signal through, this is when you need to look at multipath for your RF signal's and if the PC is under a desk then this again will reduce the multipath propogation of the signal.

Try putting the PC's in the same room and see if you can get a connection.

Another thing to check is interferance. Do you have any 2.4Ghz cordless phones, video senders or other similar devices? these will certinly have an impact on your connection.

Something ealse to try is the oreintation of the antennas, make sure that all the antennas pointed in the same direction and on the same plane. However if your AP has 2 antennas then put one Horizontal the other Verticle.

Hope this helps.
