Help Me Plz Help

hey im new here and i need major help i have sympatico high speed internet connecteted to my cpu with a ethernet cord its working fine when i have my original connection with out the router but i hook up the router it shows on my computer that i have a local area connection but i cant re connect to sympatico thus leading to no internet on my lap top which when the router is hooked up shows a wireless connection in full signal in the area. ill describe my router set up: first i take the ethernet cord out of my computer put it into the port labeled wan on my router then take the ethernet cord that came with the router put it in port 1 and then into the computer . thats my set up when i try to connect to the computer it says that theres a wan port error and the remote cpu didnt respond PLZ HELP ME QUICK

Connect all your PCs to the switch ports (1-4) on the router. The WAN port can only be connected to the internet.

hey ur telling me to take the wire from my cpu and put it into port one then the one from my modem into wan where it says on my router if this is right i have tried that still no go on the sympatico hooking up

Correct. You will need to configure the router WAN settings so it can talk to the modem properly (often DHCP will work). You also need to make sure the LAN and WAN sides of the router have a different IP range, e.g. 192.168.1.0/24 for the WAN and 192.168.2.0/24 for the LAN.
