Help Temperamental Wireless

Hi! I've got a very annoying problem. In my household, we have 4 computers. One is hooked up directly to the modem. The other 3 receive wireless signals from that modem and a linksys router. 1 of these three pick up the signal fine. The other two, a desktop and laptop, pick up the signal fine and strong, but get dropped at random times, usually within 15 minutes of resetting the router. Downloads or streaming media hasten this drop. Two important things to know about my situation are that 1. this problem didn't exist before we encrypted the wireless network...however, all computers are properly configured to pick up the signal. 2. The computers aren't just dropped... the signal dies completely... the router stops sending signals and the entire network is dead. Only when the router is unplugged and reset will the signal return.

I don't know what the problem is here. Is the router broken? Is the encryption? Thank you for any help.

Whats the router? (Linksys, D-Link, etc..)

You might have a bad router. Faulty routers often shows symptoms like what yours is experiencing. Random restarts being the main one occurring.

One thing you could try is updating your routers firmware and seeing if that by some chance fixes the problem.

It's unlikely but some routers run very hot - may be worth checking it's not overheating.
