Default Hp pavillion 8652c Memory problem

I inserted a 256mb pc 133 sdram 133mhz into a pavillion 8652c it now no longer works even when i switch back to the old memory card.
A friend of mine has the computer and I recomended the memory but he installed it. He said the computer would not work so he reinstalled the old ram but now when he boots it will only partially boot., The Windows XP boot screen will show with the progress bar for a while and then it reboots again over and over.
I hear that the pavillion 8652c can only use 128 mb Dimms that run on 100mhz would this improper memory the 256mb Dimm that runs on 133mhz hurt the computer.

Please help.

Re: Hp pavillion 8652c Memory problem

I chkd out the specs of hp pav and the max supported mem is 256 MB, PC100 SDRAM DIMMs, ** reffer to HewlettPackard Pavilion 8652C Memory Upgrade **
1. The system will crash as you have installed a 133mhz Ram.
2. The native os is windows 98, but you have installed windows xp
3. Which type of memory have you installed, SIM/DIMM ?

Simple solution to make the system work,
** Put the old memory stick back, reinstall windows **

Default Hp pavillion 8652c Memory problem

I tried what you said. I reseated the old memory and the problem continued so it seemed to be a software related problem. I reinstalled Windows and everything works again now. Its interesting how memory can screw up windows. Anyway thanks for the help

For some strange reason after about two weeks the same old problem has returned. I wonder if the Hard drive is the problem. Please help.
