HP ze4500 turns on...sometimes

My HPze4500 pavillion turns on...sometimes. I took it to Geek Swuad and they suggested a new motherboard, but that doesn't make sense to me since in turns on sometimes. In fact, I am using it right now to post this message.

Could it be the battery?
Could it be the motherboard?

I am really confused!!!!
