Heres the situation.
Running Auditor on my laptop.

Gpsdrive works fine on the laptop and reports the gps cordinates

Kismet picks up networks along with Gkismet (prefers to use this as its prettier and easier to read)

No GPS data is coming out!

Cant for the life of me figure out why its happening. gpsd is running, gpsdrive is picking up all the gps data from the gps unit and spitting it out, it just wont output valid GPS data in the .cvs files that kismet spits out.

anyone who's used Auditor who can help please?

ok got everything working smoothly i think.
narrowed down the problem possibly. i think its gpsd. it keeps saying 'Lost GPS signal'

looked around and other people have had the problem with but they then downgraded to an older version which i can no longer get.

Ok, it took 7 days and lots of 18 hour days, before we narrowed it down to the GPS unit. The GPS unit works fine, spits out good information (checked it using the diagnosis -D4 extension with GPSD), and GPSDrive worked fine with it.
For some reason Kismet couldnt handle the information, we think it might be because the Novatel GPS unit was spitting out too much info. Kismet couldnt understand it properly.

I used a Garmin Etrex and it worked perfectly fine.

Novatel GPS unit - $3000
Gamin Etrex GPS unit - $280
Finding out the el--cheapo GPS unit works fine after spending 7 days straight trying to sort it out...

Pric...
FRECKING annoying....
Well This is just a heads up for people who might run across the same problem.

If Kismet keeps saying GPS signal lost just before it starts (and does not re-acquire) and is not displaying any GPS info. Try another GPS unit that is known to work.

Glad you got it going, and thanks for the heads-up... just about to take up war-driving myself (just downloaded 3 versions of auditor just to find my Linksys card isn't compatable)
at least I know what GPS to buy when I get a compatable card!

If you want the best card (card i would get now) id get a senao card with the external connector. external connector because you'll miss up to 70% of the networks if youre just using your pcmcia card. well thats what i found anyway.

grab an external omni direction aerial, say something like this http://www.borg.net.nz/shop/product_info.p...ff0a9553a91f3f6

and you'll need to get the plugs and cable for the whole setup, ol Andrew at Borg should be able to sort you out.

Though id check if the senao work with kismet properly, im not sure but best to check. i use a oniroco gold card that works just fine in kismet.

If you have any problem with the setup and what not give me a yell, i spent 7 days on the damn thing before i found out it was the gps at fault. So ive looked at lots of config files etc. considering that before i installed kismet id never really used linux before. Was a mission and a half.

hmm if i was insane id love to get an amplifier and put it inbetween the aerial and the card, would it make a huge difference you reckon people? (besides the fact that ill definately be flooding the spectrum). like i said, if i was insane or in a crazy mood id like to try it out and see... muahahhaha
