I have a Linksys WMP300 draft-N router hooked to my Speedstream modem for WIndstream DSL. I have the corresponding adapter in my main system and everything runs great. I get the full 270Mbps connection to the router.
Today I bought a Linksys G adapter to put into the kid's computer (I can't string cat5 where I live).
The PC is running WinXP Pro SP2 with all the updates (except SP3). I loaded the software, put in the card and voila...can't do diddly with it. It shows a 99% signal, but when using DHCP it never receives an IP, although once it managed to get an APIPA address (indicating DHCP is disabled, even though it isn't).
Using WPA-personal and TKIP on the router (downgraded from WPA2 since this new adapter doesn't support it).
It manually assigned an address, setup the gateway, DNS, etc. It connects to the router briefly, then drops, then picks up, then drops. When it is connected it says internet not found.
I disabled the Linksys software and tried using the MS Wireless and it connects (and doesn't drop signal). I managed to bring up a couple webpages then suddenly, the internet stops responding, even though I still have a connection to the router.
This is driving me nuts!!!! Has Linksys quality gone down the tubes lately or somehting?
Any ideas on this one? Would an off-brand card work any better, or at least be easier to setup? This is ridiculous.
