Hi guys, this marks my first (and probably not last!) post on these forums.

Ok, here's my situation, I really appreciate anyone who is able to give me any ideas on what to do...

I have a few PCs in the house, and a couple of laptops (both of which have wireless).

I use a Nokia M1122 as my DSL modem, and recently added the WRT54G to the network.

Basically I moved the PCs to the WRT54G as it was a 10/100 switch compared to the 10mbit m1122 hub.

So basically the network goes:

M1122->WRT54G->PCs and laptops

This is where the fun starts....

I have internet access on all machines, laptops and desktops but I cannot fileshare to them (XP Pro SP2).

I can ping all desktops from laptops, and I can see everything in the workgroup, however when I go to connect it denies me saying "Not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource".

I have simple filesharing enabled, all firewalls off on both the computers and on the Linksys wireless unit.

The WRT54G is running the SVEASOFT firmware, has loopbacks disabled and is running a DHCP server. The M1122 is also running a DHCP server - if I turn off either to relay or "off" the net and lan goes dead.

I've had this problem with filesharing ever since I added the WRT54G, and I don't really want to go back to using ethernet to the back of the M1122 with the laptops again

OK!

Minor success, NETBIOS on both machines fixed filesharing, now I can't get remote desktop to work?

It says it cannot see the computer?

Are you trying to remote desktop between 2 XP machines?

If so, you need to enable remote desktop on the XP machine, go to start menu, right click on my computer, go to properties. Then go to remote, click "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer"

I've had it running for months on LAN, the Linksys is what messed it up.

After weeks of trying things out enabling netbios seemed to clear things up!

Have you tried connecting to the IP instead of the netbios name?

If that still doesn't work see if the router is allowing access on TCP port 3306

Sometimes the problem could be an Internet Connection Sharing related problem, as previously encountered with a linksys user.....
