My laptop could connect and use the ADSL cable in my house with no problem. But when I moved to my brother's room, where there's one unsecured wireless that I always use for as long as I got this laptop, it says connected and have signal strength and stuff, but when I tried to browse the internet, it says page load error (Mozilla Firefox) and the same as IE. When I tried to login Skype or MSN, but only Skype could, but msn wont let me as if there's no internet connection. This started happening yesterday. I'm not good at fixing computers so I need some solutions that works. Thanks
PS: I run cmd.exe, and typed like ping Google and it says host name is incorrect or unable to find it, something like tht. I ping my IP address and there's no prob. Also in msn troubleshooting, DNS has a ! mark. Must be it. But I dont the solutions. Whats weird is that it works before, why it started yesterday and still happening now? Is the guy's wireless broken or something?
You may have an IP conflict try assigning a static ip address to the laptop. You will need to connect to the adsl cable and type in at the dos prompt ipconfig and note down the DNS ip address and the IP address of the computer. Note down the gateway address as this is needed also to find the router. it usually ends in zero. like 198.10.2.0.
If you do not have a valid DNS ip address on the wireless connection or a conflict in IP address you won't communicate with the router.
Or try type in at the dos prompt c:>
ipconfig/renew
I am assuming the router is providing the wireless connection also.
If you have a stand alone wireless hub it may need to be wired into the adsl router. As the router will be providing DCHP which is used to set up the ip address across the network.
