Try logging in and seeing if your settings are still there. If they were erased from the modem, you won't be able to connect to the internet. Also try updating your modem's firmware.
I had the exact same modem you had, the Siemens 4100. It didn't work right from day one. It would basically disconnect from the internet whenever it wasn't being used, and I had to power it off and on again, and wait two minutes for the internet to connect again. Back when I used it, the first thing I did every morning was reset the modem.
I got a Siemens Speed Stream 5100 off of eBay, and it worked perfectly. I haven't had a problem with this model since I got it. Everything went just right.
Oh yeah, I'm using a D-Link DGL-4300, and I was having that same problem you were having. So this problem couldn't be caused by your brand of router. I also tried a TrendNet router on the 4100, and I got the same results.
