Default "page cannot be displayed error" in IE using wireless connection

Hi i'm new here ! I've been looking and posting threads on other forums/message boards seeing if someone might be able to help me with the problem im having using wireless but its been no use. So i decided to register on this site to try my luck Here's the issue:

There are two PC's in the house hold. Computer #1 (is a shared computer) and the internet runs on ADSL. The modem is connected to a (NETGEAR) 108 Mbps Wireless router. Computer #2 has a wireless connection and has a NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter properly installed. Computer #1 has perfect connection, no problems at all. Whereas Computer #2 constantly displays the "page cannot be displayed" error when IE is opened. Strangely enough, the error still comes up even when there is Very Good - Excellent Connectivity stength.

I am wondering is anyone else having that problem? Does anyone know the solution? Or what might really be causing it?

I should note that the ISP was called and the operator said to call the manufactuer (Netgear) as everything looks fine on their end. I called the manufactuer and voila! Google.com opened fine as well as other webpages. I got off the phone and it didnt work anymore - fancy that . So i gave up for the day and i called again the next day. After doing the whole Ping (IP address and websites) through Command Prompt, I was told that everything came down to it being an issue with the IE Browser, and there was nothing they could do to help. Its really drilling my head in and it needs to be fixed before the school holidays finish. Are there any thoughts or suggestions on what to do about this?

Thanks so much in advance for any feedback.

So the wireless part is fine. So It's not the problem.

IE timesout or errors when it can't find what you are looking for, namely the address, which comes from the DNS server.

Is the AP allocating static or dynamic IP addresses.

Hi i think i understood your question lol ..no there is no problem with the IP address changing and as far as i know nothing is interfering with the connection. The internet sites basically don't work even with known sites such as Google or Sign In etc (thats 99% of the time). Sometimes we have to close the browser then reopen it and try again, and it works - but once we click on a link on that webpage "the page cannot be displayed" error comes up. We can't browse the internet at all even if we manage to open Google .

I tried connecting the ADSL modem to the computer to get a local area connection .. the error still came up when we loaded IE. So yeah, its definately not the connection as it works on the other PC like magic. Maybe it has something to do with the registry or there are some corrupted files which prevent it from loading correctly ? It would be an idea to reinstall IE6 but we can't even go on to microsoft.com to download/install anything. We're clueless as to what to do.

There will be a Gateway address on the Netgear router. Find it and write it down, unless you already know it. Also check on the router (web page) if it is allocating static or DHCP addressing. Sounds like DHCP addressing to me. OK.

IE could be corrupt, it's not uncommon and can be a pain to fix. Use your current PC to access Microsoft's web site to fix IE or your Windows CD.

Check the PC with the PCI adaptor in it, it's local network connection. Double click on the 2 PC icons bottom right; then click on the 'support' tab. Will have: address type, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

Is you router gateway and PCI adaptor the same? Click on 'details' under the support button and paste them here. It might make it a bit easier to sort out.
