Default Printer Canon Pixma MP620 Wifi with MAC OS X (10.5)

I have a problem with a printer Canon Pixma MP620 Wifi in an Apple iMac OS X (10.5)

The program "Canon IJ Network Tool" don't find the printer with my iMac.

This printer work good with a PC (OS Windows XP), in Wifi or connected with an USB cable.

On the iMac, this printer works well with the USB cable -> Driver is good.

My Access-point is a modem-router US-Robotics Wifi

Thank you for all ideas to solve this problem !

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem as you do.
I was wondering if you already have found a solution.
Have been searching on the net, but no success till now.
Thanks.

Smile Got it going

I just hung up with Canon for my MP620 wireless using Mac OS 10.4.11.
I was trying to do everything wireless from 35' away.

She had me connect the printer via USB first, then install the software and BINGO,
There it was.
Then I selected my MP620 and put in my WEP password.

Went to Print&Fax and under Canon selected ADD and and saw the 620 Printer.
UNPLUGGED the USB and did another ADD and saw the Canon 620 that had the MacAddress number added to the MP620 name.
That is the Wireless Canon Driver!

Printer is now in the in the room 35' away and I get all the signal bars but the last one. (7 green bars).

I just did not follow page 32 of the "Getting Started"

I was having the same problem and called canon technical support. What it turned out was that the default mac os x Firewall was preventing me from seeing the printer. Try following these steps and see if they help. This was for Max OS X 10.5:

1) Click the 'Apple' button in the upper left-hand corner
2) Choose 'System Preferences...'
3) Click the 'Show All' button at the top to make sure you are seeing all the options
4) Under the 'Personal' heading, pick the 'Security' button
5) There are 3 tabs at the top, choose 'Firewall'
6) There are 3 options, try picking 'Allow all incoming connections' (the first option). IMPORTANT: this will make your computer less secure if you don't eventually change this setting back to 'Allow only essential services' so please remember to do that after you finish (see step 13).
7) Now that your firewall is disabled, lets try to add the printer
8) Click the 'Show All' button again to get back to main System Preferences page
9) Under the 'Hardware' section, choose the 'Print and Fax' button
10) If you see the 'MP620' series under the printers list on the left, delete it by selecting it and pressing the '-' button underneath.
11) Insert the Canon CD and repeat the install process (or download the drivers from the canon website). Please be sure to follow all the directions in the manual but this time it should work.
12) Check that the printer works. If not, there are other things you can try, just post a response and I will follow up.
13) Re-enable your firewall by selecting the 'Allow only essential services' tab under the 'Firewall' tab of the 'Security' menu. Apparently the firewall should detect that the printer's internet traffic is harmless and continue to allow it.
14) Check that the printer still works. If it doesn't, you will need to either keep your firewall disabled or set an exception. That is a little more complicated and I can post those directions if somebody asks about them.

Jacobkg07,

Thanks for that post! I was having trouble getting my printer set up until I read your post. Thanks, the firewall was the problem. However, I now have to keep my firewall set to 'allow all incoming connections', otherwise the printer doesn't work. How do I set an exception, as you suggested in your post. Your help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi Jacobkg07,

I'm still stuck, in spite of your wonderful directions. Can print when connected via USB, but wireless? No go.

Have followed your directions through step 11 to the letter. Downloaded the most recent driver from the Canon site. There was an insert in the box with updated Mac install directions, which I used in lieu of the manual. According to the insert, after restart, I should have seen a Canon IJ set up window, but all I see is my normal desktop.

When moving to your step 12, there's no sign of the Canon printer in my Print and Fax Window (System Prefs > Hardware > Print & Fax).

I've repeated the process three times now, which means the driver is on my hard drive in triplicate (another thing I'd like to correct, if I could just find the blasted thing).

Additional help, please...? Thanks in advance!

** The printer works wirelessly for me as long as I have the internal firewall disabled. Of course, I would rather have the firewall enabled and learn how you went about the more complicated process of setting exceptions. When you have a free moment please post those directions. Thank you for your help.

Unhappy mp620 & MacOS X 10.5.6 now "offline"

I was able to install the software without a problem and printed for several days. Now whenever I try to print, it says the printer is offline (the printer says it is connected on the user interface panel). I can not get it to come back online. I have power cycled the entire system (including the wifi router).

Default Try this

I am new to the Mac and found this on another help site. I was having the same problem and could not for the life of me get the thing to print. I went into system deleted the printer with the "-" key then added it again with the "+" key and boom.. worked like a charm, have no idea how or why, but the thing is working. Hope it helps

Interesting method, but hey, whatever works! I have had a similar problem and should try this to see if it helps me out. Otherwise, I may just return my printer and shop more Canon Printers and make sure I get one with warranty and support.

Default I got it to work...in a weird way

I was also having the same problem. I followed the instructions from Canon precisly, but whenever I tried to print something, the printing icon from the bottom menu screen started bouncing up and down, with an "!" and a message saying "printer is offline"

However, I fixed it by doing what "kyzer the medic" did. It was a little hard to understand his post, so let me try to re-post some more clear instructions:

1.Press the apple in the top left corner of your screen and go to System Preferences.

2.Go to PRINT & FAX

3.Select the printer on the left hand side of the menu, and press "-" (the minus button)

4.Now press "+" and then a new menu should pop up. Go to "more printers" at the top right of the new menu. Click on the MP620 series printer, and then press "ADD"

For some strange reason, this resolved my issue, and printer works fine.

Default Set Access for Specific Services and Applications

I had the same problems. I followed the above instructions to:

Goto security setting; apple logo (Top left)
>> system preferences
>> Show all
>> security
>>firewall
>> set access for specific services and applications
>>press the Add button
>>scroll to cannon directory (applications>> canon utilities>> Mp
navigator ex2.0>> click add)

Still didn't work. When I added MP Navigator ex2.0, it asked if I wanted to add "canonijnetwork.bundle" and I clicked "ALLOW".

Then I opened System Preferences >> Security >> Firewall
I clicked the "+"
I clicked Applications >> Microsoft Office 2008 >> Microsoft Word (I was trying to print from Word)

Now I have no problems printing from Word. I hope this helps.

Smile "Printer Offline" Error Message - MP620 & Max OS 5.x

Newly-installed, router 'n printer had same information, could scan to MAC but printing got the "offline" error. Tried the firewall modification, but it was already set at 'Allow all incoming connections' . Then did the delete/define process as set out by kyzer the medic & njchadwick@gmail.com. VOILA! - Instant connection, printed as should, accepted scans.

All is now well - thanks to all.

Default You guys are awesome!

My Canon MP620 was working fine until this morning and then it suddenly went into offline mode, although it was on and communicating with the router. I deleted the printer and then added it and I'm back to wireless printing. Awesome! Thanks!!

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and the printer is gone again. The firewall menu changed a little bit. Hopefully this doesn't take long to figure out. Prior to Snow Leopard, the scanner wouldn't work unless I turned off the firewall every time I used it. Lame.

This discussion helped me out the first time I used this printer, thanks for posting!

After four hours, finally a level 2 wifi tech at Canon was able to help.

In an attempt to be clear, I was originally able to install drivers for usb connection. I was able to confirm that the printer spoke with my router.
When I tried to add printer + the MP620 showed up with mac address numbers after it. But in the add printer window I was unable to click "add" because it wanted me to select a driver or printer model. But gave me no options for selecting one.

I would recommend skipping down to #8 and trying it first. If it doesn't work go back to #1.

Some of the things I was asked to do were:

1. Run through all Mac OS upgrades until up to date.
2. Sign on through "Root" account.
3. In Finder click "GO", then "Utilities", then "Disk Utility", select Mac HD, and click on "Repair Disk Permissions"
4. Delete all old canon files (unfortunately I don't remember where they all were.) I'm not sure this was necessary.
5.Download newest Canon drivers from Canon.
6. In Print/ Fax remove any existing usb canon printer. (-)
7. Install canon drivers as per instructions.
8. When you are at the add printer window, click on "More Printers" in the upper right hand corner, a window should pop up with "Canon lj Network", select the printer and then click "Add". The printer should show up as "MP620 Series" in your printer list.

Hope it helps

Default Canon 620 "Printer offline" issue

Hi
I'm using an Imac with my 620, and it functioned fine under OS 10.5, but after a couple of weeks on Snow Leopard I've been experiencing exactly the same problems as outlined above.

I discovered this forum and tried the corrective actions suggested but unfortunately without success.

Two long conversations with Canon didn't improve things either.

I eventually discovered that the problem was Router related - I'm using a BT Homehub 1.5, and for other reasons I had to reset it. Once I did so I was able find the printer in Printers & Faxes. I deleted the existing driver using the "-" key and added a "new" printer using the "+" key, and all was sweetness and light!

Just thought I'd pass that on in case it helps anyone.

Cheers
