Default Problem with wireless 11G usb adapter

I'm having a problem with a Netgear wireless adapter on my PC (WinXP Pro SP2, latest drivers installed). The PC can connect to my home wireless network but it won't connect to the internet. The wireless adapter works fine on my other PC. I have had similar problems with other adapters on this PC (i.e. connects to network, won't connect to internet) so it's probably a PC setting that needs changing. I've tried using windows wireless config and Netgears software with no joy.

Have already uninstalled the firewall (symantec) and disabled windows firewall. Turned off encryption early on trying to fix it, no joy.

Thanks for any help.

Hi there
Does the wireless adaptor get an IP address from the AP? if it does it may be a DNS problem. Check under Network Connections that the wireless adaptor has not been "Bridge" to any other network connection. Try changing the SSID on the AP so you can create a new profile on your PC just in case it is holding on to any old information. Does the AP have a switch? if so make sure the PC will work with a straight ethernet connection.

Good Luck
Dale

Thanks for the reply, gowifi.

The adapter is given an IP address by the router and isn't a bridge to another network. Changing the SSID number didn't change anything. The PC can't ping the router or any internet addresses.

The PC can connect to the internet no problem when connected via an ethernet connection to the router.

The ipconfig output might offer a clue...
