Default problems with USB WLAN Adapter

hi all just joined today as im looking to get into wireless

so i have my adapter (DSE USB WLAN Adapter XH1153 using the Amtel AT76C503A chipset) and i cant find updated drivrs for it anyway the current drivers i have for it are not digitally signed (im running windows xp)

when i go to properties of my network connection theres no option to configure SSID or channel or anything all it has is geera or advance, no wireless connecion settings, so i try and use the configuratio tool that came with it and it says that "profile cannot be changed while windows is configuring the device" which is fair enough, but to get te option to stop automatic configuration by windows i need thos extra option under wireless network configuration

does anyone have any ideas or help ?

as i can run net stumbler and it can detect the AP i want to connect to but theres no where to configure the settings in order for it to connect

was there some sort of configuration program that came with the adapter? I have my dlink 620+ installed on my win2k machine at work, and there's no settings in windows networking for wireless (this might have changed in XP), but i have a program that came with the card that tells it what SSID to use etc

or even better take it back, from my experience DSE will refund your money.

It may just be a faulty unit. Either way dont your time.
