Prolink WG2000 /rR unable to connect to wireless network
I have recently purchased a Prolink WG2000 /R Wireless USB Adapter and I have been encountering problems while setting it up. After installing the drivers and utility as per the instructions on the driver cd that came along with the adapter, I clicked on the Wireless Utility icon on my taskbar. I was able to detect my wireless network but was unable to connect to it. After calling up the Malaysian Prolink technical helpline, I found out that I did not have a "Profile" tab in my Wireless Utility window. Is this normal? Would someone be able to offer a solution to this?
Prior to my purchase of the Prolink WG2000 /R Wireless USB Adapter, I was using a D-Link DWL G122 Wireless USB Adapter. However, after I had to reformat my computer, I was unable to use the DWL G122. Again, I installed the drivers as per the instructions on the manual found on the driver cd but when I inserted the USB Adapter into a USB port, no drivers were detected even after I had downloaded the latest drivers from the D-Link website. Both an automatic and a manual detection of the drivers failed. I had also attempted to direct the installer to the .inf files found within the drivers that I downloaded but an error messaged popped up saying that the file specified did not contain the information for my device.
Any help and advice regarding these two problems is greatly appreciated.
I notice you said that you have to re-install Windows, have you install service pack 2? Alot of the wireless tools for XP were quite basic with their early versions. If so you may need to check that the Zero Configuration Utility service has been started. This is under the Control panel and then go to "Administrative Tools" and then "Services" and then check that "Wireless Zero Configuration" service has been started.
I hope this is of some help
Cheers
