Default Sapphire ATI Radeon X 1600 Pro in Dell Dimension 8250

Hi all

Tried to post to another thread by Eric Klaassen about this but didnt have permission?

Anyway I have got the above AGP card, installed it into a Dell dimension 8250. However on bootup there is no video display at all.

The dell diagnostic lights basically say check that the HD is connected, which it is. I have reset the BIOS. I have unplugged everything from power to see if it is the powersupply (250w), still nothing.

I tried the card in another machine and it works. So I tried an old PCI VGA card that I had in the Dell machine and that works.

I am starting to think that its possibly the AGP port on the board. I just wondered if Eric Klaassen in hes thread titled Saphire ATI Radeon X1600pro on Dell dimension 4550 sorted the problem when he changed the power supply?

Any advice appreciated.

Newer video cards, like your X1600, need a lot of power to run right, and sometimes, wont even display a image if theres not enough power for it. So try a different power supply. All of the video cards I have ( X1900gt, X800 pro, X700 pro, Geforce 6600 gt,) ALL require extra power from another wire from the PSU. So make sure you are meeting the power requirements that the box says.

ps. even if your card is displaying a picture, and is running off of that little 250W, your going to suffer severe performance loss due to the lack of juice. So a PSU upgrade is recommended for a video card like that (a 400w or 450w will do fine). If you want to go higher than that (like my x1900gt) you might want to upgrade to a 550w or 600w, just to be on the safe side.
