Some websites are unaccessible

So I'm using your standard wireless card, I've updated my drivers, I'm looking fine when I run ipconfig. Now, using mozilla firefox, I can only access certain websites. For example, to get to gmail, I usually use gmail.google.com which redirects and connects with google.com and mail.google.com.

I can ping google.com, and gmail.google.com, but mail.google.com is unreachable.

Is this unusual, or is there a common solution to this problem?

You are using a wireless network, just wondering how good your signal is. If you have a week signal or are in a electrically noisy environment you may just be getting random page timeouts. Do you manage the access point, as some have firewalls that can block certain sites with access list rules. It may be set up incorrectly. Next would be to update the firmware as some problems like this can be crook firmware.
