Default US RObotics 9107 ... ADSL Problem

I have been using this unit with a single computer for less than 3 months. Unfortunately having lost the receipt I am unable to get it fixed under the warranty.

It had been working without any problems until suddenly a few days ago it lost the ADSL link. There was no lightning nor any surges as the UPS did not kick in.

I have a dual boot (XP-Pro & Linux) system and I was in Linux when this happened. I thought problem was with DSL line and had the ISP send out a technician. They found the line to be ok and I too confirmed this as an old DSL USB modem works fine. Unfortunately I can't continue to use that modem due to it not having any XP drivers (no longer supported hardware) and the 98 drivers act pretty flaky requiring frequent re-installs.

I tried a firmware re-install and also before that did a hard reset keeping reset pressed down for over 2 minutes and also tried using the backup config file. Nothing seems to work as it indicates no ADSL connection.

Have replaced all cabling to eliminate that being source of problem.

Any help most welcome - thanks!

P.S. - Also have a US Robotics 9105 older router which cannot be initialized. My son reset the default 192.168.1.1 to something else and now nothing seems to make it initialize; no hard reset, no new firmware ....nothing!

Default No DSL

I work for an ISP repairing DSL faults and these are the things I check when a known good modem works. If your old DSL modem connects and has a good DSL sync connect rate then it normally rules out a faulty line. The first thing I usually try is changing the phone line cord to a known good one. If no joy then factory reset and log into the modem to ensure it has been defaulted. This is to ensure the modulation type has not been changed. If still no DSL then it is no good, it may be a faulty modem, or your ISP may have done a firmware upgrade on their equipment causing it to be incompatible with your modem.
Good Luck,
Dale
