Default USB adaptor question

I have wireless USB adaptor. I heard somewere that the adaptor should not be plugged into a hub. My first question is if a USB expansion card is considered a hub. I also am questioning the version. The card is a version 2.0 but is there hardware that is needed on the motherboard to support USB 2.0? I am having situations where the internet connection is lost and my coputer locks up and I am wondering if it could be a USB issue. The computer was built up around the same time 2.0 came out and I am not sure what version the on board USb ports are. When I look in device manager, there is no version given.

An expansion card is not considered a hub.

When you connect a 2.0 device to a 1.1 mobo or expansion slot, it will automatically fall back to a 1.1 speed. This may also be the case for you if your drivers for the USB slots on the mobo are not installed, or if the drivers for the adapter are not installed.

Try the manufacturer's website, and see what they say.
