Default Whats wrong?

Ok so I'm trying to have wireless internet on my laptop. So the router I'm using is DLINK DI-624. and the wireless adapter I'm using is the Smc2662W-CA. So I've installed all the drivers and everything but when I try to surf the internet is doesnt work. The program that came with the adapter says that my signal stregth is 100% and link quality 100% and I'm connected but it seems like IE wont use the adapter. I'm using windows 98

Default Win98

Hi there
There can be a few tricks with using Win98 with wireless as it completely relies on the software that comes with the card, not like WINXP which has its own support. You are probably best to turn off security on the Dlink and see if you can browse first, and then try basic 64 bit WEP next. As win98 normally sorts out it's IP address on startup there can be an issue with it getting an IP address and gateway, one way to chech that it is getting an IP address is to goto "Start" then "RUN" and then type in "winipcfg" and select your wirless card and make sure it has obtained an IP address. If it hasn't and you have tried pushing the "renew" button then there will be problems with the way your wirless card is configured. Make sure you have downloaded the latest drivers for the SMC card as I have found that the SMC products can have old install CD's with them.

We will need more info to make any more suggestions.

All the best

Dale

thanks for the tip on winipcfg. I had to change the key type I was using and then I renewed and it worked!
Thanks Again
