Default Wireless Adapter Only Works on One USB Port

I am using a Linksys WUSB54GC wireless G adapter and a Linksys WRT110 wireless router. My problem is that this setup only works if I plug the adapter into a particular USB port - the bottom port on the side of my Dell monitor. In this position, it works fine. However, if I plug the adapter into any other port, the light on the adapter doesn't come on and there are no wireless networks connected (when working, it detects my network plus a couple of my neighbors).

I would suspect that the USB ports are not functioning properly, but they work normally for other USB functions like syncing an iPod or getting pictures from a digital camera.

I don't think it is a distance problem because the adapter works in the bottom port on the monitor, but not the top and doesn't work even when located closer to the router.

I don't think it is a power problem because disconnecting all other USB devices doesn't change the situation.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some USB devices only work on the first port they were used on in that computer.

Whether this is a flaw in the OS, device driver or BIOS is not known to me.

3 years later....

I'm having the same exact problem. It's very odd and I do not understand. I am bit tech savy so I know what I'm doing.

This happened to me when I first installed windows 7 and everything was fine for a month and then this happens. I reinstalled windows 7(different version) again and then a month later it happens. Odd? Yes. I get a different problem now it's saying plug it into a 2.0 usb port to make it faster. This is directly connected to my pc. Last time it was on a hub when it happened.

It's odd and I cannot figure it out. I spent hours on trying to fix this on my own. Not many people get this problem and reinstalling the drivers didn't work. The time spent on a different windows with a newer build would probably be smarter. This has not happened to me since I started using windows 7.

The only thing I can think of that made this happened is overclocking. It's about the same time I started using windows 7. In fact I will see if this fixes it now.

Back again guys. Fixing the overclock did not work. Even now I know my usb hub ports are working since I did a system restore. AND OMG a frog juss jumped on my mouse.(yes a real frog) ANYWAYS....I'm not sure what it was. It the same thing to my Belkin wireless G card also and it never worked again after. I am using a different card now....So even though I am underclock. I will go back to overclock and do my normal routine and find out what caused this problem.

Make sure you do system restore under safe mode. To ensure you did it correctly.

Default Same here

Ive got the same problem. I havnt figured it out, but I think that it might have to do with how windows installs drivers or has somthing to do with the driver profiles for certain ports. Everytime I plug in the trendnet usb adaptor into another port it seems to create another profile. Now im up to 13 diffrent adaptors just checking the other ports. It only works on one port. The one that I orgionaly installed it on.

Default Possible Solution

Hi, I realise it's 3 years since the original post but for anyone else in the same situation I may have a solution.

The same thing happened to me with a new-build Windows 7 32 bit system. I had to make a registry change that allowed the usb ports to switch off and effectively reset when devices are removed from them.

This Microsoft support site (article ID 2401954) contains the information I used. As this is my first post on the forum I cannot include direct links but if you google the following you should end up there:

USB Port Remains Active for Disabled or Safely Removed USB Device

Hope that helps

Default The Different kinds of Ugg Boots

There are various styles when it comes to Ugg Boots. Perhaps the most favored Ugg boot is the traditional Classic Ugg Boot. They are available in short and tall sizes. The classic boot is made from sheepskin, and it also comes in various colors. The sole is made of EVA - a gum rubber sole which cushions your foot when you walk.
The family of Classic Collection boots is made up of Classic Talls, the new Bailey Button (which has a cute button and wider opening), and the Classic Short Boots. The Bailey Button and new Bailey Button Triplet are expected to be the hottest sellers this fall.
Classic Knit Cardy UGG Boots for Women are a new line of Ugg Boots which were introduced as "the Knit Boots". They are really fun - and insanely comfortable. The Knit Boot line is made up of the Classic Cardy, Classic Argyle Knit, Classic Tall Stripe Cable Knit, and Classic Argyle Knit. These boots, however, aren't meant to be worn in the snow, because of their knitted sweater-like material.
I just love it when I'm wearing mine, though. They feel really good, as if they were hugging my feet. They're very comfortable to walk in, and they're perfect to wear indoors, outdoors during the fall when it's nice, and for short trips during the winter.
They have all styles
