Default wireless connection with ebay/yahoo etc.

Has anyone else experienced trouble with accessing certain sites over a wireless connection?

I have just set up a wireless router (2Wire 1710HG), connect and can acess most sites (both http and https) at a good speed, I can browse most of ebay no problem but when I try to sign the browser times out. Similar with yahoo mail, I can login no problems but when I try to open a mail the browser times out every time!?

I can acess the above site using a usb dsl modem, so there doesn't seem to be a problem with the ISP, laptop, or browser settings. I have installed both IE and Firefox, both result in the above.

Laptop is acer running win xp home.

Thanks.

A couple of other bits of information.

Laptop is an Acer - running Windows XP home

I have noticed the following from the router config.

DNS Communication: Successful
Configuration Server Post: Waiting for DNS information

That's pretty weird. If those sites work normally without WiFi, the only thing I can think of is if the 1710HG offers some kind of internal caching or proxying. Turn off any such features, or look for firmware updates.

I just checked my Yahoo account, and messages are just standard http links, so nothing strange there. I tried disabling Javascript and saw Yahoo's mention of their "old style" email interface. It's a shot in the dark, but might that work any better?

I once had a similar problem. Try to find information about the proper way to set up your router with the modem. If the modem is also modem/router you can run into double network address translation problems. If I remember correctly, I needed to either have the DHCP in the modem or the one in the router supply IP addresses .. not both.
