1. Desktop connected to Linksys WRT54G V5 with the latest firmware loaded
2. Desktop connected to Linksys WUSB54GS
3 Laptop with built in wireless connector (Billinton 802.00b/g mini pci)
4. Laptop with Belkin wireless G USD adaptor
All PC's are running on Windows XP
Now, desktops 1 & 2 are connecting fine to the internet. But I cannot connect any of the laptops ?.
I have been working all day with Laptop (4). Earlier It was showing an IP address, bit not gateway address, so I added manually. The system is showing a 90% connection to the main desktop (1), but I cannot get connected to the internet ?.
Not an expert at this (obviously), I can only think its something to do with the laptops settings somewhere. The Belkin USB adaptor does work as I used it on Desktop (2) before I changed it to a linksys.
Anyone able to help ?. If you can, please let me know in as simple terms as possible, not up on all the system tech stuff/names.
Hi there
Are you getting an IP address on the laptops. Just double click the wireless icon in the task bar and check under the "Support" tab. It should have a gateway and DNS server info if you look in "Details" .Also are these laptops used on another business type network? They may have proxy server details set under internet connection options, which would stop internet access on your own network.
Good luck

Well, since I posted my original issue. I did find a problem with the assigning an IP address, then when it was, it would not assign the gateway. I managed to add the gateway manually, and I did get laptop (4) connected.
Then when I did a re-boot, it would then not re-connect again. When I do a DOS ipconfig/release and renew comand. It will not renew because it says its an error connecting to the DHCP server.
Also, this laptop did come from a server backround, and originally was looking for the proxy settings, I thought I managed to get rid of it all, but I might be missing something ?
Not even had a chance to look at the other laptop. Thats brand new.
Hi there
The other thing to do is disable security and try again, just incase the encryption your access point is using is not supported by the laptops. Often when security is wrong the wireless will show as connected but you are unable to pass any information. Try basic wep 64bit. You are sometimes best to change the SSID while testing so new profiles are created and old settings don't stuff up your attempts.
Good luck
