Default Wireless Freezing PC

I'm a Uni student and have just moved into a rented student room. the only available internet here is wireless, and i have a desktop PC. Simple, Me's thinks. I'll get a wireless USB adapter and i'll be away.

Whylst the adapter is plugged in there is a constant chance that the PC will freeze. it just locks up, the sound goes heywire and i have to physically restart it. It only dose this when the dongles plugged in, and it could go all evening without an issue or it could do it 8 times a night. I have been through 2 Belkin G+ MIMO's a buget G+ that i forget the name and brand of, and i am now on a Belkin G+ (not MIMO). If anything the current belkin G+ crashes slightly more than the others but theres not much in it. Connecting to a Belkin G+ MIMO router. any sugesgions? As i have said when its not plugged in there are no issues what so-ever. also, when i'm back home using old faithful (cat5 or a USB modem) its fine and dandy. JUST the wireless. its driving me insane!

please help me!

I apologise for spelling and grammer. I'm dyslexic

Have you concidered that it may be your PC and not the USB adapter.

What OS are you running (XP/VISTA)?
Are you using any other USB devices?
Do you updated and current drivers, not only for the USB device but for your PC?
Have you checked the event logs to see what error is being generated if any?

Regards

Fred

I think its something the adapter is doing to my PC rather than the adapeter itself. but i cant work out what. All my drivers are kept up to date constantly. Its something of an obsession.. and unplugging everything not essencial apart from the Adapter made no difference. Like i say it dosnt happen when i'm connected to the net with wires, and not when i'm not connected. I'm Running win XP Media center 2005

*Edit* Two errors appier frequently in the log. The first is caused by WMConnectCDS and is described as:

Service 'WMConnectCDS' failed to start correctly, due to 'CreateMediaDevices' returning error '0x80004005'.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

And the second is caused by W32Time and is described as:

The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 14 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any help?

*More edit*

I have disabled auto update of time and uninstalled 'windows media connect' Time will tell if this helps i guess. I won't have to wait long to find out :\

It didn't help. Only after the latest crash did i notice that the event log has stopped logging in mid september, dispite having several errors and Info entries a day every day untill then.
