Default Wireless light on Netgear router gone out.

A few days ago my WGR614v5 netgear wireless router was working fine and all computers in my home were working well with it, however it wasn't secure. So I firstly enabled 128-bit wep and also configured the relevent Mac addresses to work with it. At this stage I did have some success, but some of the laptops weren't working with it so I decided to reset the router back to its factory settings in order to start from scratch.

Once I had done this the wireless light on the router became unlit (no rebooting resolved this), but the router internet light still blinked away. As a result I was unable to connect to the router wirelessly from any of my computers. I also plugged a LAN cable from a laptop to the router; this failed to light up any of the 4 numbers along the side of the router. The cable was working earlier that day. I still could not connect to the router or its configuration pages.

Can anyone lend me any advice on solving this. Does it look like the hardware has gone kaput!? All I did was restore the router to its factory settings, it would seem weird that this would break it.

Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe give it another reset? Did you follow the instructions exactly when resetting? The exact technique to use the reset button varies between products and unfortunately some have been known to corrupt the firmware if incorrectly reset, which would give symptoms similar to what you describe.

Check out this page on Seattle Wireless. They have some useful tips on getting serial and JTAG ports to work which may assist in re-flashing the firmware.

Edit:

Your model appears to use Broadcom hardware. If you manage to get a working serial console I've got a few tips on getting firmware back on using the Broadcom CFE interface. I guess there isn't any reason why firmware such as DD-WRT shouldn't work either so it might be worth a try (at your own risk of course).
