Exclamation wireless network connected, but cannot browse

Hi Forum.
I'm new to this forum and have an annoying challenge.

I recently changed ISP and have a Wireless BT Homehub. Up until the weekend, I have not attempted anything wireless.

I have a desktop PC and a laptop currently connected via wired network cable and that is fine.

This weekend, I purchased a network card (Netgear WG311v3) for an older PC. First of all I needed to reinstall Windows XP on it, having run linux on it for a while. I installed the driver software for the card with the CD provided and connected the card as instructed. Everything appeared to work fine with the PC showing a wireless connection as expected. It can see my SSID name for the Hub and shows a connection speed.

The problem I have is that I am unable to surf the net. Browsers cannot connect.

If I connect the PC with a network cable, everything is fine. It just doesn't allow surfing via wireless.

(addl info...... I've set WPA and WEP security for the hub as required. I've tried uninstalling the hardware and reinstalling it to no avail. I've also tried assigning new wireless keys and changing port number as suggested by a friend, just in case there is conflict with any other HomeHubs in the area. No luck!)

Would be grateful for any advice. Please help.

The BT HomeHub comes "locked" to BT so I am surprised you were able to get it to connect to your new ISP. Have you installed 3rd party firmware?

Mis-understanding. BT IS my new ISP and provided the homehub. This was just background stuff.

The HomeHub comes with MAC filtering enabled by default. You can either try pressing the "Wireless Association" button on the back of the hub and let it find your WG311, do not press the button for too long as this will reset the hub, or you can change the settings in the hub wireless security section to "new stations are allowed(automatically)". This does not affect your wireless security as "MAC cloning " is easily accomplished.

Thanks for you advice here. I've done the above, but it still doesn't work. I've noticed that the netgear software doesn't show an IP address assigned and I believe it should do because I've seen a similar set up at my workplace and that has the IP assigned. Any other ideas?
