Wireless Problems - Computer talks to wireless router, but not internet
Hi there
I am a novice to all this, but recently received a 3com Office Connect wireless router from a friend and have a 3com wirless card in my laptop.
I have also recently received TalkTalk and am having issues.
The computer can establish contact with the wireless router, showing a good signal. However, i cannot get it to talk to the internet (i have plugged the modem cable into this and into the telephone socket). Therefore, when the TalkTalk setup runs, it cannot find the internet.
I am probably making some schoolboy error - can someone help.
Try logging into the Routers configuration pages to check that it has an IP address from your ISP. You would need to check the documentation for the correct IP address to access these pages on.

I had the same problem a few days ago. After searching around and finding many suggestions, I still hadn't resolved it.
I got it fixed after checking some settings, and whilst it may be totally different for you, here's the thread where i posted - and resolved! The problem.
I think I misread the original post, I thought you were getting internet connectivity with your wireless router.
Have you been able to get wired internet access since switching to or using talk talk? Without going through the new router, I mean. Also, are you using microfilters at all? Sometimes it can cause problems if you don't. If you needed them, i'm sure talk talk would've provided them, however.
Sorry to answer your questions with more of them!

thanks for getting back again. I noticed that i didn't have a BT Master Socket (NTE5) as i think i replaced it with a plain socket during some routine DIY. Last night, i replaced this with a socket that has a microfilter fitted (it has a phone socket and an ADSL socket).
As i only have a wireless router, can i check wired connectivity using the laptop's internal modem or do i need a special ADSL modem (in which case i can go and buy one).
Another issue - i have a phone extension upstairs in an office - will this work for ADSL also or do i need some special extension?
Thanks again and sorry for the extreme lack of knowledge!!
