Default Woke up one morning and could no longer connect

I have a cheapy Compaq laptop I bought in October to use for travel/email - I went to bed the other night and it connected to the wireless in my house just fine, then in the morning (after doing an update overnight) it just stopped working. I can plug the laptop directly to my router and it works fine, but no wifi! Its telling me there are no wireless networks within range? I have another computer (a mac) that connects to my wireless with no problems - Its *just* the laptop! I've tried reinstalling the driver with no luck. When I check the adapter in computer management, I get nothing that tells me there is a problem - in fact, it says "this device is working properly"

Please help! What do I check next?

Thanks!

OK - I lied - so it has completely disappeared from my list of adapters. Why would this happen? I see the NVIDIA but not the broadcom - and I just noticed the orange light that usually turns blue is still orange.

I'm feeling a tiny bit computer stupid tonight..

If it were me...

1. I'd hard reboot a couple of times and see what happens.

2. you mentioned your nvidia network - was that working before? The update may have turned it on, or changed something in it that's clashing with your wireless kit.

3 - somehow you've turned off the radio on your device. Have you got a function & number key combo that will turn it back on? Do this and leave it for a bit to see what happens.

4 - Possibly you got a driver update via Windows Update which has banjaxed your setup for some reason. Try rolling back the last update - and then selecting custom updates in windows update and don't pick any networky ones.

Hope this helps.
