Default WRT54GS w/DD-WRT as AP; can't see SSID

So I upgraded to a 802.11n wireless router (DIR-655) and decided to make it dedicated N instead of trying to serve G and N mixed; to serve G I set up my old WRT54GS router as an AP off of a different IP than the main router.

I see the WRT54GS on the network; wireless status shows it as working; however I can't see the SSID from any of my wireless cards. The only changes I made from when it was working fine before were:

1) Changed the IP (to be different from the new main router IP)
2) Turned of DHCP server (changed from Server to Forwarder and pointed to main router IP)
3) Plugged a network cable into one of the LAN ports (nothing is plugged into the WAN port now)

Wireless status shows everything looks good:
RadioRadio is On
Mode AP
NetworkG-Only
SSID ABCD
Channel 14
Xmit 28 mW
Rate 11 Mbps
Encryption Enabled, WPA Pre-shared Key
PPTP StatusDisconnected

Any idea why this router isn't visible for wireless?

You don't say where you live but Ch14 is only used in Japan.
There are also many laptops built by multinationals that have wireless cards which do not work on Ch's12 and 13 with the provided driver. I would suggest that you stick to Ch's1-->11.

You got it! I changed the channel to 11 and was able to see it. I had picked 14 because it was at the unused part of the band - had no idea about the restriction for Japan. You'd think there'd be some warning about that on the admin tool.

Thanks again,

Dave

List of WLAN channels - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This provides a basic list but it is best to check with your local regulator to keep up to date.
