07492 mobile code - what is it?

Hello,

Bit of a strange experience. I am trying to call a mobile number that
begins.07492 but my cellphone won’t let me and says it is barred.

When I try from a payphone I type 074 and then it bars me.

Any ideas why this is?

I can't find 07492 listed as a code in use.

07492 is not issued. Sure you haven't reversed figures?
It might be 07942 which is a T-Mobile number.

If it isn't that, I had the same problem a few months ago when O2
issued 07514, as usual the networks don't tell each other of new numbers
For the first few days i could hardly connect to anyone.

On past experience it takes a couple of weeks for it to be added
to every networks lists

As I said before - 074 numbers are not issued, as are none of the
numbers in the range 071 to 074. See the Ofcom site for number
allocations.
