I hav bought a 3G Vodafone connect card and it was supplied without a
sim.
I thought you could use any sim in it but apprently not.
I have been told that I need a 3G sim, whiich apparently is diferent to
a normal one.
I don't want a contract as I will be using this as backup only, so need
a payt sim.
So far I have not been able to find anywhere that supplies them.
Can anyone help?

Vodafone say they will only supply a sim with a contract, and that
other companies sell the sims without contract on their behalf. However
I have not been able to find one that does.**
It's possible to obtain a pay as you talk SIM from Vodafone and have it
enabled for 3G services. You will, however, be charged £7.50 per MB
for data download by putting a normal PAYT SIM into a data card.
Vodafone do offer a cheaper rate on PAYT, this is £3.07 per MB,
although the only way to obtain data download at this cost would have
been to officially buy the SIM with the data card from Vodafone (or,
for their data card PAYT deals, from one of their resellers)
When you buy on Ebay this wouldn't be an official Vodafone outlet and
you may not get the original SIM included.
As mentioned above you can put a normal PAYT SIM inside the data card
to use the service, however as it's a normal SIM rather than a SIM sold
with the card itself, you would be paying the £7.50 per MB data
charges as you would if the SIM was being used as part of a mobile
handset.

You can only buy a card from Voda with a sim, if yoou sign up to a
contract. I have not so far found a reseller who sells them.

Vodafone Pay As You Talk data cards are sold through third party
resellers rather than Vodafone directly. There are over 12,000
resellers in the UK , including: PC World, Currys, Dixons, The Link,
Comet, Insight, Dabs, Maplin, Systemax, Amazon, Technoworld, Equanet,
eBuyer etc.
When you buy a Pay As You Talk data card from one of these resellers
you get a package, including a data card and a SIM card. The data
charges are £3.07 per MB in the UK, £9.08 when roaming. These are
cheaper than you'd get on a normal Pay As You Talk SIM (£7.50 per M
because the SIM has been provisioned and sold officially with the data
card.

Any pay as you talk SIM can be used for data transfer. All that's
required is it's provisioned for GPRS, this will either allow you a
connection to Vodafone Live!, the standard internet, or to use your
phone as a modem. A normal PAYT SIM will charge at £7.50 per megabyte
when downloading GPRS. A PAYT SIM can also be set up for 3G to allow 3G
handset services.
I've got in touch with some of the above resellers, PC World, Comet etc
and asked for an update on the sale of prepay data cards, once I hear
I'll get back and post more information. From searching around the
internet there are resellers available, pending stock issues:
