Default 6310i no signal - blacklisted?

Just bought a Nokia 6310i off eBay. Advertised as unlocked. Asks for code
when O2 SIM (3 or 4 years old) inserted. Accepts SIM code but then no
signal/O2 logo. Can find networks manually, but select O2 & 'No Access'.
Select any other network & phone re-boots. Same with an O2 'freebie' SIM (1
year old?). Orange SIM works fine. eBay pic shows phone switched on & with
T-Mobile info on display. Said "The picture shown will be the phone you
recieve".

O2 say the phone is not blacklisted because Orange works. Apparently if a
phone is blacklisted on one network, it's now blacklisted on all networks
(this right?).

Any know what might be happening? Faulty phone?

Cheers ... Mark

Not necessarily. The list is shared but it will be barred on the
originating network first before the other networks update their lists.
So you could possibly happily use it for 3 months on Orange and then
it would just get barred too.

I would phone o2 again and get them to properly check the IMEI isn't on
their blacklist - this would give you the definitive answer!

O2 quoted the Data Protection Act - apparently they can't search on an IMEI
to see if it's blacklisted because of it...

When you put the sim card in does it come up with O2 and get a signal and
then get rejected? That is a sign of it being blocked, if nothinnseg happens
that points more to a faulty sim or maybe a faulty phone.

When is the exact message you get when you insert a sim that doesn't work?

If code set: "Enter PIN code:". Enter PIN code & "Code Accepted". Then blank
screen except full battery signal + signal icon (but no signal). Other O2 SIM
(which has no code set), goes straight to blank screen (battery signal +
signal icon).

Holy cow! Just tried again & got the O2 logo + a full signal for about 1
second - then it lost it!!

Tried again - now back to original problem..Jeez...

Probably faulty phone - I say this because of the reboot problem. Even if
the phone is blacklisted it shouldn't reboot upon connection to a banned
network.

What's the sellers rating? A good/honorable seller will refund you for this
sort of problem.

Could you post the outcome here so that other eBay buyers can have the
benefit of your experience?

Gareth.

If it's stolen yes. FOr something like a billing dispute it might not
be. It could just be faulty on 900MHz.

The sharing would take no more than a couple of hours. Each network
connects to the database several times per day.
