Default About to leave Orange to go to O2 - Worth seeing what Orange can provide me?

Hello,

I've been with Orange near for near enough 4 years I think now. Been on
the 200 anytime minutes and 500 texts since I began. It costs me £30 a
month + £5 insurance + about an extra £7 in extra charges when I run
out of minutes etc etc, so lets say £45 monthly spend.

Now I'm coming to the end of my contract, and was looking at Oranges
current plans which generally look crap. i.e dolphin £35/ month 275
minutes 750 texts (I dont want a 18 month contract), wheras O2 provide
400 minutes and 500 texts for the same. Which would be ideal as I'm not
a huge texter.

Before I go is it even worth seeing what Orange can provide? I mean do
you reckon they could match the O2 deal and maybe throw free insurance
on top? Or would I be expecting too much? Anyone got any good ways in
dealing with Orange CS, or any decent deals they have been offered i
could aim for?

Cheers

Ben

p.s I'm looking at a K800i for an upgrade.

There's certainly no harm in giving Retentions a call and seeing what
they'll offer you. I'm not sure what is classed as a high spender these days
('tuther Jon?), but I'd imagine £45 a month is enough to give some leeway.
And apart from anything else, what do you have to lose by trying? A few
minutes of your time? You might be surprised, you might not.

Even more so if your main reason (at least from how I'm reading your post)
for considering moving networks is on cost grounds.

Regards

Jon.

Yes, probably enough to put you in band 4 which is only one off the top
spot. The real deals are on 18 month contracts though. In fact with an
18 month contract and your monthly spend you would be allowed to upgrade
again after just 15 months, so it's only asking you to have the same
phone for 3 months longer than a 12 month contract, is that so bad?

Hi. Go to customer services and hopefully you'll not get anywhere.

When you've done this then write to CEO sending copies to as many directors
here and in france as you can find saying "appaling cust services" etc etc.
They're usually on the phone to you next day!

Good luck

Be very careful when calling Orange CS (they will each give you a different
answer for a start!) they will offer to match any other network deal....but,
in my experience when my son went for this option, a year later they
wouldn't let him up-grade his phone because - they said - up-grades are only
offered to those renewing a standard Orange contract.

\now this wasn't mentioned when he went on thid plan, and som 8 months into
his contract he rang the up-grade people (coz his battery was knackered) and
they said he'd have to wait until month 11, but when he did ring he was told
sod off! (in a round about way). Do not trust anything they tell you, if
they say you can up-grade tell them you want that in writing before you
agree to the contract

I've just renewed with O2, and wanted a K800i, but I threatened them
with T-mobile's online tariffs, which are currently £5/off. IIRC, a
K800i could be had for as little as £20/month plus £20 on a 12-month
contract, for not all that many minutes. But it's a useful starting
point.

[Or you could take a punt on a cashback deal. I've been on two, but I
am now wary enough of the way those are heading that I decided to see
what I could get out of O2 instead.]

O2 retentions were pushing a 610im at me, and I wanted some more
minutes with my K800i, so I ended up on £24/month, free phone,
18-month contract, for 400 minutes and 500 texts, with rollover. (I
find it useful to build up a bank of minutes for the occasional heavy
month.) No doubt I could've bargained harder. But I figured the phone
was worth maybe £10 of that over the contract, so £14/month for the
calls and texts didn't seem too bad.

I wouldn't pay separate insurance, to be honest. You should have cover
on your household policy and it's no problem picking up a payg
equivalent replacement. A replacement SIM for your contract is only
about a tenner.

Just tell them that you want your PAC code, that should send them
scurrying off to the retentions. When i had my o2 upgrade back in
November, they originally refused to give me what i wanted, and i asked
for my pac code!

They then offered me for £35 per month 500 mins and 500 text and the
phone would cost me £100
considering i was paying £35 for 250 mins and 100 text, i wasn't
impressed!

i eventually got my contract down to £15 (or so o2 cs tells me its
£10 now)

so im paying £10 p/m for 500 mins and 500 text+ a £3 for 2mb of data
p/m
and i eventually got the k800i foc, since o2 screwed up with the
delivery!!!!

all im saying is stand your ground, keep on requesting your pac code,
and keep declining the offers, untill your sure that youve got the best
deal out there!

(i used to work at phones4u, and i dealt with customers wanting to
leave networks, so i know how the networks try to retain you!)

Sorry to dig this topic up from the dead but I finally got round to
ringing orange today......

Beat this, been with them 4 years, tell them I've seen the 400
minutes / 500 texts on O2 for £35 a month, well we can give you 500
minutes and unlimited texts, to which I ask is it an 18 month
contract, which it is.

Tell them I only want a 12 month contract, he replies best we can do
is 250 minutes 250 texts. To cut a long story short, I ask for my PAC
code, he goes OK, be with you in 2 days!!!!

Didnt even attempt to keep my custom! Not a single counter offer!
Obviously I'm not a very good customer! Never ever had that in 7 years
of owning a mobile phone!!!

Ben

Not quite enough to warrant trying to keep obviously!
