Default Answerphone nototification on O2 and Vodaphone

I am currently on Orange, and when a message is left on the Answerphone
- my phone displays a tape spool type icon to indicate this and issues
a single message tone.

On some of the vodaphone and perhaps O2 phones - what happens is the
phone tries to call you back at regular intervals to tell you that a
message is waiting - find this very annoying esp if the person is not
there to take the call.

I REALLY dont want this style of notification - does this still happen
like this and can it be changed to work like Orange?

Thanks everyone!
D

Yes for the most part it can - contact your network for instructions to
change the behaviour of voicemail. You will not get the spook icon in
my experience.

Why doesn't O2 provide the spool icon?

Orange uses a CPHS implementation on their phones/network which uses
the answerphone spool - so far as I know they're the only UK network to
do this.

Best to speak to O2 and see what your answerphone options are.

Don't know why - but they use the envelope icon instead.

Orange and T-Mobile are the only ones that provide the Voicemail
notification in the way that you are talking about.

O2 and Vodafone give you either the option of getting repeated call
backs to notify you of a new voicemail, or a standard text message.

On Vodafone if you also register at vodafone.net then they will send the
proper voicemail notification like with Orange and T-Mobile, but you
still get either the text message or callback too.
