Default anyone know how sms and video telephony works over umts?

Hi,

Does any one know how sms and video telephony works in the UMTS
network? I searched throught 3GPP, but didn't find anything useful.
The specific questions I am asking are:

1. Is the sms treated as the packet swithced data service or the
circuit swithed service? and how is the bit rate? I mean the bit rate
of the transmission channel for sending or receiving sms.

2. What channel does umts use to send sms? signalling channel or data
channel?

3. Is the video telephony treated as the packet swithced data service
or the circuit swithed service? and how is the bit rate? I mean the
bit rate of the transmission channel for carring the video call
session. e.g 64kbps or 128?

Thanks!

1. On umts, sms is packet switched - bit rate will be 16k...
2. ... cos it is sent on signalling channel.
3. video is circuit switched on an aggregated 64k channel (adaptive).
Video is backhauled once it leaves radio domain on 64k Bearer Service
channel over INAP, which enables easy interconnection between
networks. To use 128k (or greater) you would have to do it as a data
connection over h323, ie use the phone as a data modem, there is no
native support afaik from any handset vendor to do this seemlessly.

Thanks for your reply! I just have another question regarding the SMS:
How to estimate/calculate the impact that the SMS traffic contributes
to the network? e.g. cell load and throughput?
