Default blackberry and gmail

I'm going to buy and blackberry so that I can check my work emails
when I'm out of the office. I use gmail as I sometimes work from home
and I find it very useful. If I have the emailed downloaded/pushed to
my blackberry will they also go to Outlook on my work pc - or do they
only "download" to one device once (be it my pc or the blackberry).

any help greatly appreciated.

Peter

Does the Blackberry email program offer the setting 'leave messages on
server' or some such description? (My Nokia 6300 does, as do all the email
programs I've ever used). With that setting selected, incoming messages
will stay on the server until one of the programs you use tells the server
to delete them. Meanwhile, each of the email programs you use can access
those messages.

The BlackBerry Internet Service does not delete mails from the mail
server, so you will be able to continue using Outlook as well.

With Googlemail, you can even use IMAP if you wish.

Thanks for the advice. I've yet to buy the blackberry so I can't
comment on the functions. What is IMAP?

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol>

The mail stays on the server, so however many mail clients you use,
across many machines, you're only dealing with one set of folders -
Inbox/Sent etc.

Are you using BIS or BES [if you don't know, then it's probably BIS]? BIS
has an IMAP client, as does Outlook, so if you access Gmail via IMAP then
you'll be able to see all your mail from both devices. Bear in mind that
Blackberrys aren't the only fruit - any handset [preferably 3G] with an
IMAP client + data plan will do what you want.

I used the word Blackberry in a generic way. But looking at wants
available on ebay (vs. Treo for example) you seem to be able to pick
up Blackberries for the best price.
