Hi,
I want to buy a P990 on O2. Could anyone tell me if it's better to get one
before christmass (I guess companies will try to get as many consumers on
board as people are going crazy during that time) or after (since sales will
go down maybe there'll be some great deals for new users). I'm currently on
O2. I want to port my number to Virgin and then back to O2 to get a better
deal. Is it still possible? I remember that many people used to do that
before. Also since I'm living abroad, are there any companies that do good
deals and instead of having to send them bills, they do automatic cashbacks
(they can always say that the mail got lost on the way there from abroad) ?
Thanks for your help.
Kind regards,
Raphael

Before you do all that faffing about make sure you try O2 retentions and
see if they can just come up with a good deal, last year we got a free
D600 out of them and 12 months automatic half price line rental.

I did... Unfortunately since I'm abroad most of the time and don't use their
phone I was offered line rental of 25 pounds and 400 pounds for the phone...
Last year I got a great deal as well... Without an upgrade I got a line
rental (500mins xnet) for 12 pounds/pcm and 100 pounds cashback... (around
1.4 pounds/ month )Unfortunately for O2 since I came to London and had
all those free minutes I never managed to utilise all those minutes. What I
need now is the best deal. I thought of getting it through CPW. 35 pounds
line rental and after 6 months and the phone is free. They all so have some
kind of cash back deal. The thing is I'd prefer a company to transfer me
that money into my a/c instead of sending them bills and them sending out a
cheque as they'll either get "lost" in the mail or they'll arrive a day late
or something like that.

I'd seriously reconsider going with cpw, I'm having a complete nightmare
with them at the moment, see my other thread, Why is nothing easy with
carphonewarehouse? Long story short, lost phone at weekend, pay £33
a quarter for insurance, they tried to get me to take a used phone in
the store I went to, declined that, then they posted me one, said it'd
be here monday, it was here tuesday, finally get the phone, no sim card
in it/with it, get a sim card today, call them up to activate it, still
not working at this moment in time.
They are the most useless company I have ever dealt with, I really do
hate cpw.

ouch.. that does sound like a "bit" of a cockup on thier side.. I know that
they're not very good, but the problem is that I'm after a good deal. I
might just go to O2 and get them to pricematch CPW . The question is,
should I try to get one soon or wait until the shopping craze will be over?
Also can I transfer my number to Virgin and then transfer it back to O2?

Not sure what else to suggest store wise, you can transfer to virgin and
then back again, i've done it before with orange, it's a bit of a faff
but certainly not too much trouble.

I noticed. I'm currently in Poland and I can get a Virgin sim here for
around 1 quid , transfer the number and after 30 days, transfer it back.
Considering the fact that I use VOIP it's easy as pie and costs almost
nothing. Ordering the phone though the net will get it to my place in a
couple of days. SWEET . I just love globalization!
