Default Call charges to former O2 mobile number

Hi

Can anyone help me with any info about this call charge question please?

By chance, both my daughter and I have O2 mobile phones and so I can call
her without (further) charge using my 'free' minutes.

She has now decided to change to an Orange contract but is arranging to take
her old O2 number with her. I gather that call charges depend on the network
to which the number was originally allocated. So does that mean I shall
still be able to call her as if she were still an O2 customer i.e. without
charge during my free minutes?

Thanks,

V

From a landline, it will be charged as a call to O2. However, from your
O2 phone, O2 will know that the number has been ported out and thus charge
cross-net rates.

Do any landline provider's charges (still) differentiate between
networks?

Yes, many still do differentiate between networks.

Even if they no longer differentiate between the four main networks,
most still charge substantially more for calls to mobiles on the 3
network.

You gather incorrectly. That only applies to calls from landlines.

There is a page about it on www.mobileshop.org, and that bit is not
out of date.
