You need to buy a bluetooth dongle which should have some software
with it.
These are the things you need to know.
1. There are classes and versions of bluetooth.
1.1 Class 1 (up to 100mW output power) has a greater geographical
range of operation than class 2.
1.2 The higher the version the newer the build.
So, if you want a longer range and a recent build go for class 1
version 2.
2. Win XP does NOT support bluetooth audio out of the box.
Hopefully the bluetooth dongle will come with a disk. You may find
that it installs OK - on th eother hand it may not.
If it does not you need to DELETE the microsoft stack from the
registry. I can't remember th edetails but you can google it.
Once the Microsoft stack has been deleted uninstall any bluetooth
software you have installed. If possible run registry Mechanic (free
via vnunet). Then start again.
If you are using Linux then I do know that I have trouble with Ubuntu
with bluetooth. Afaik they are working on it though so that might be
corrected soon.
Summary:
1. Choose the appropriate bluetooth dongle.
2. Try installing dongle but if it fails to communicate audio follow
my instructions above.
I bought a Jabra BT200 headset for about £16. It works very well using
a Toshiba Bluetooth stack.
