No. You cannot by definition port from orange to orange.

You can transfer a PAYG number to a contract but only at the point of
connection, it cannot be done retrospectively. This type of number
transfer is referred to internally as NT3.

Actually, come to think about it - is it possible to do it from an
Orange contract to another new Orange contract? So getting a retail
deal on an Orange contract and then 'porting' the number over (rather
than an upgrade, on account of OCR not offering as good deals as
retailers)?

It's not porting, it's migration. And yes, you can take a number from
contract to PAYG, done it several times.

When you call customer services to cancel your contract, request a free
SIM card from them. This will arrive in the post near to the end of your
30-day notice period. You then ring to register this SIM stating that
you are coming off contract and want to keep your old number.

Totally unnecessary surely! I can recall coming to the end of a contract
with Orange about 5 years ago and, even then, in their letter moving the
number to PAYG was a standard option!

It is a standard option, but you have to ask for it.
