I'm looking to cancel my current vodafone contract. It finshes at the
end of September this year but the signal quality in my area is
terrible and I frequently miss calls and text messages usualy arrive
hours after they have been sent! 02 seems to get a better signal so I
want to move to them.
Question - can I cancel my vodafone contract before the end of it's
term due to this reason and if so will I have to pay for the 2 months
I have left?

Whatever reason you give for cancelling they will probably still make
you pay up till the better end - re. your reception issue they will
probably just say you should have thought of that before signing on
(but more politely!). They were still deducting money from my account
two months after I switched to T-Mobile, they really do go for every
last penny they can squeeze out of you. Bearing this in mind, one
thing you could do is try to get a tariff reduction to the bear
minimum (maybe £15 a month?) till September. Sorry to sound jaded, but
I did move to T-Mobile for pretty specific reasons!
The thing is the reception has been fine for years but recently I
moved house/jobs so the signal has suffered. Maybe they will suggest I
should move back so I can stay with vodafone!
I'll give them a try tonight and see what they say but you are right,
I might have to go for the cheapest contract for the next 2 months.

Hi Alexander
Working for Vodafone, I can tell you that the only way you'll be able
to cancel early without charge, is if there is a network problem which
will not be resolved (eg - if a site has been commisioned and there
will not be a replacement).
If the coverage in your area is just poor or patchy, it will not be
grounds to cancel your contract so you will have to pay the remainding
2mths to leave.
You can check to see what your coverage should be like by visiting here

You will have to wait it out. If you really want to move now you can pay
it off and get your PAC.

There's always the possibility of just refusing to pay them since
you're not actually able to use their service. They might not choose
to chase you up for only two months of your contract. You might
choose to follow up your experience with the local paper/radio
station, who'll probably take an interest, given that it'll affect
other people in the same area. Perhaps if Vodaphone have a local
branch in your town you could try and get some satisfaction from the
manager - either by getting out of your contract, or the satisfaction
of informing would-be buyers that it would be pointless spending any
money with Vodaphone given that the coverage is so poor there.

They're welcome to put factually correct statements on there -
anything else you can have removed, and you're free to add notes to
your record to explain why the company which recently reported the
largest financial loss in UK corporate history is trying to weasel out
of providing a paying customer with the service they expect.
if quality is very weak you can cancel contract without paying any cease
fee's but it's a very long process, i use to do this all the time when i was
at voda.

Too bad it wasn't you we dealt with when our local mast was knocked out by
a fire in the building it was situated on. Voda refused to release my wife
from her contract, even though we live and work in the coverage area.
£30-odd/month for a further 5 months for fuck-all. Not impressed one bit,
especially as my own Voda contract - via Singlepoint - was released in the
course of a single phone call.

In our experience, Voda won't release a contract even then. See my other
post to this thread.

The author said in a follow-up message that the problem was caused
when he moved. This is not Vodafone's problem. Why should they cancel
the contract, it is not their fault
