Default CARK91 Remove privacy handset

Guys 'n' Gals,

We bought a car, which came with a CARK91 fitted and a phone. It all
works jolly well except for one thing. The kit had a privacy handset
fitted, which allowed someone to take the call without letting the other
occupants into half the conversation. This is now illegal to use.
Furthermore, if it is knocked off its cradle (and the driver doesn't
notice) it renders the whole shebang inoperative.

We'd like to remove it. I'm guessing that simply cutting the wire won't
work and I expect I'll need to find the central "brain" to which
everything (including this handset) is connected. Is it then just a
matter of unplugging it?

Thanks,
--
Peter

Even worse if the "hook" breaks.

Blimey! I hadn't thought of /that/.

Only by the driver whilst mobile. I fitted one in my car specifically for
the passenger.

No it doesn't, at least not on mine.

Yes just unplug it. It's on an RJ45 plug. If you don't want it, I know of
someone who may be interested :-)

The handpiece/hook has a magnet in it that tells the phone it's off the
hook. If your privacy handset is off the hook, the sound & ringing will
not come out of the loudspeaker - at least this was the case on mine.

Yes, I knew that - but there's rarely a passenger and even if there was,
only the driver's phone will fit the cradle.

OK.

That's what we found - and is what I meant by "inoperative".

Thanks to all. I now have to find the little box and make sure I pull
the correct plug out!

The Drone expressed precisely :

I know, I was telling Ivor he has a unique CARK-91

If you can't follow the wire, when you do find the control box, the
socket is labelled. AFAIR, it's a plug similar to an RJ11 or RJ45.

It's a standard RJ45.
