Default Changing a number

Hi all,

I need some advice and thought I'd see what the group thinks.

I've had the same mobile, on Orange, for about 9 years. However, for
reasons I won't go into, I need to change it.

What I am after is the best way to change the number and yet have some
sort of overlap for those people I can't notify straightaway. However I
don't want a recorded announcement on the old number giving the new one.

Thoughts?

(Without wishing to lead people to give a particular answer, does it
help that I have a Nokia 9500?)

Thanks

Rupert

Take a new contract out, keep the old contract running for a month,
inform everyone that needs to know your new number, sell free phone
that came with new contract or keep it as a spare.

Erm, start a new contract (or PAYG) with a new number .....amd carry on
paying for the old one, until you're happy everyone's got your new
number.....or have I missed something in your question?

If you don't want to carry two phones around, you could divert calls to
your new number. If both are on Orange & you can cajole them into
letting you have their "Everyphone" service, diverted calls would be
completely free of charge.

Change your number with Orange (by calling customer services). If it is
because of malicious calls then Orange will do it for free. Once your
number has been changed (this is instant) then send a text
message/voicemail/email announcing your new number to only the people
that you want to know.

Seems fairly straightforward to me, perhaps I'm missing something.

I don't see how the handset you own is relevant.

Thank you to those who replied. I forgot to mention that I've only just
'upgraded' (to get a new handset for my partner) and so have 11 months
to go. In any case my talkplan is a nice old one which I don't really
want to lose.

Oops. Yes, I wasn't completely clear. There are quite a few people who
have my number because I'm a.) an IT consultant so rely on calls from
clients who've had my business card and b.) a councillor and have given
my business card away to lots of people

It's going to take a while to churn through all my clients and previous
clients and get new business cards (in both roles) and so there will
need to be some time when I know what the new number will be, but the
old number still works (may only need to be a week or so)

I did toy with thoughts of a Line 2 number for the old number for a
month, or something but didn't know if that is practical

Thanks for the thoughts

Further to the various replies, I did the "ring OCS three times and
choose the answer you like the most" thing.

The third teletubbie was most useful and gave the answer I preferred. He
told me what the number would be and let me choose a date when it will
become active. It cost me a tenner to have it done but was exactly what
I was looking for. Hurrah!
