The only problem with my trusty 3510i is no BT so I can't use it on
the move in the car.
What would be the cheapest / durable / long standby / loud ring tone
and reasonably large (big hands) mobile out there atm please (off
contract and ideally on T-Mob or easily un lockable)?

He's right, though..! You can't beat the best..! Don't bother with BT
though, get the 'proper' CARK-91.

Hmm, not sure about the car kit but funny you should mention the 6310i
.... I was talking to a mate this morning who still uses one (but is
having problems with a Jabra BT headset and my neighbour who might
have his old one up for long term loan ;-)
Googling about it did seem to have it's fair share of problems though
... ?

Some versions of the 6310i firmware had bluetooth issues, but the latest
(last) version fixed it. I've never had problems when I've used BT with
the CK-1W on my motorcycle (nowhere to fit a CARK91 cradle..!)

V7 I think, but I'm using 5.51 with no problems.

Depends which Autocom box you have, mine does. Autocom make a box with a
pair of matching transformers that connects between the two jacks on the
car kit and the music input on the Autocom box. It works well, but I did
have to make up a potential divider on the receive audio line, which was
*very* loud even at the phone's lowest setting.
People tell me they can't tell that I'm on the bike, even at motorway
speeds.

Amazing when you think about it .. considering some folk can't be
heard properly when standing still!

Or take it to any Club Nokia level 4 centre who will reflash it for free,
if you complain about bluetooth vulnerability
V7.00 is anti bluetooth bluesnarfing.
Clearly previous versions are not fit for use,
and so the manufacturers responsibility.

Thanks for that Steve .. I got mine from 'next door' ;-)
Not plopped my T-Mob PAG SIM in from my 3510i as yet (so may need to
net unlock it, the Virgin SIM in there is working so that tells us
it's already ok on T-Mob?) .. not sure how I'm gonna get all the
phonebook entries from that to the 6310i?
Actually I'm not sure where it is right now .. I know it's in the
house somewhere as my PC is currently connected to it ;-)
My current T-Mob PAYG is old and on the 'Standard' tariff (so the
automated lady tells me). Would that age SIM have a lower limitation
re phonebook entries to a current one (ie so should I just get a new
SIM on 'Everyone' and keep the old phone / SIM going for a while)?

That sounds good. Failing that I do have a 'tame' phone shop who might
do it for me ;-)
